How do I access Alberta Health Services home care?

Step-by-step guide to accessing publicly funded home care through Alberta Health Services in Calgary and area.

First phone call

You do not need a doctor's referral to request information. Dial 811 for Health Link (24/7) or 1-855-371-4122 for the Continuing Care Access Line. Explain your situation: falls, recovery after surgery, chronic illness, or caregiver stress.

A case manager or nurse will typically schedule an in-home assessment to see what support can be safely provided at home.

After the assessment

If you qualify, AHS may arrange health care aides, nursing visits, therapy, equipment loans, or respite. Publicly funded care focuses on essential needs; families often add private hours for companionship or extra help.

For private support alongside AHS, Senior Comfort Homecare serves Calgary, Airdrie, Cochrane, Okotoks, Chestermere, and Strathmore. Call (403) 402-0358 any time.
